    CSR & Charity Work

At PPS we take our Corporate Social Responsibility seriously, from finding environmentally friendly energy-saving initiatives for our customers to working with local charities. You can read our CSR Policy here.

    PPS and the environment

As a PPS customer, you will find that one of the major benefits of working with us is our commitment to energy saving initiatives. Not only will these help your business save money on energy bills, but they will also help to save the environment by reducing your carbon footprint.

    Working with Tempus Novo

Ian Harrison, Managing Director, Pennine Pneumatic Services:

“When Steve and Val from Tempus Novo approached me about taking on an ex-offender, I could see the benefits both from a commercial point of view, as it took the hassle out of going out and recruiting a new member of staff, and also because it offered us the opportunity to give something back to the community.

“Going on a prison visit with Steve was a real eye-opener, as I discovered that a lot of the reoffenders had come from broken families and needed a chance to break the cycle of crime. They left prison wanting to change, but as soon as employers found out that they had been in jail, they were turned down. It was a catch 22 situation – all they wanted was a second chance.

“Steve also showed me statistics that indicated that the aftermath of a crime costs on average £3,000. If you imagine how many crimes one person might commit over a year, then it has to be more cost effective to support initiatives like Tempus Novo, which help people back into work.

“Considering the good work that Steve and Val do through Tempus Novo, we are proud to be able to make our own small contribution to this invaluable project.”

Ian has since been on BBC Radio Leeds to talk about the benefits of working with Tempus Novo.

    Overgate Hospice

Overgate Hospice is an independent charity with a mission to ensure that patients, and those close to them, live with the best possible quality of life. Established in 1981, the Hospice is based in Elland, Halifax. At PPS we are committed to championing the important work of the hospice through year-round support and fundraising activities.

Sportsman’s dinner – an annual fundraising dinner organised by the hospice, at which we sponsor a table.

PPS Golf Day – an event organised by PPS to raise funds for Overgate and held every year in September at Crow Nest Park Golf Club in Brighouse.

Overgate Associates Corporate Member – our membership of the charity’s Corporate Associates Scheme helps to support the work of the hospice on an ongoing basis

Colour Run – we supported this event by providing a van at short notice when the hospice van was damaged by fire.

    Armed Forces Covenant

In 2019, PPS signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant to demonstrate our commitment to ensuring that anyone who serves in the armed forces is treated fairly and with respect.

In practical terms, this includes digital promotion, employment opportunities and discounts for those who have been in the armed forces and their families. PPS is also a Bronze award holder in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme and listed on the ERS website.

    Annual Charity Bike Ride

Started in 2018, our annual Charity Bike Ride raises funds and awareness for good causes. The route runs from the PPS Brighouse head office to Simm Engineering Group in Sheffield and takes approximately four hours, with both keen cyclists and those with less experience taking part.

The first bike ride was organised by PPS engineer Chris Speight, after his father was diagnosed with prostate cancer, from which he made a full recovery. The second, in 2019, raised money for Andys Man Club, a charity that aims to halve the number of suicides in men under 45.

    Oastlers School Support

Oastlers School is a co-educational school based in Bradford, with 80 secondary school age pupils (11 to 19), who have emotional, social and behavioural needs.

We were first introduced to Oastlers during Bradford Manufacturing Week, when some of the school’s pupils came to our offices to find out more about the compressed air industry. To support the school, we have given talks, offered work experience to pupils and carried out a Christmas collection.

    Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice

Bluebell Wood offers care and support to children and young adults whose lives are just too short. They support families who face unimaginable realities every day, helping them to make the most of each moment, whether they have days, months or years together with their child.

After PPS, South Yorkshire (formerly known as Simm Engineering Group) moved to their new premises in Dinnington, and we realised we would be so close to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice we knew we had to pledge to support them where we could. This is why we have joined the Bluebell Wood 365 Business Club.
