    Written Schemes

A Written Scheme of Examination (WSE) is a mandatory requirement for a company covering pressurised equipment over 250bar/litres. The schemes should be available for inspection by the HSE at any time.

As specified in Regulation 8.1 of Pressure System Safety Regulations (PSSR) 2000 “The user of an installed system and owner of a mobile system shall not operate the system or allow it to be operated unless he has a Written Scheme for the periodic examination, by a competent person”.

Having written schemes in place for compressed air system is also crucial for supporting the following:

    Safety Compliance

Written schemes ensure that the air compressor systems adhere to safety standards and regulations. This is essential for the well-being of employees and the overall workplace safety.

    Efficient Operation

A well-documented written scheme outlines maintenance procedures, operating protocols and performance benchmarks. This helps in achieving optimal efficiency, preventing unexpected breakdowns and ensuring the consistent reliability of the air compressor.

    Equipment Longevity

Written schemes accompany preventive maintenance schedules, which, when followed diligently, extend the lifespan of the air compressor equipment. This safeguards your investment and reduces the frequency of equipment replacements.

    Environmental Responsibility

Companies are increasingly expected to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. Written schemes for compressed air equipment can include measures to reduce energy consumption and minimize environmental impact, aligning with sustainability goals.

It is the user or owners responsibility to comply with the legislation, but PPS is available to discuss your compressed air system, give advice and,  if required, we will arrange a free consultation and a competitive quotation to help you comply with the PSSR regulations.
